Our Mission

Doctor with Files

The Mission of California Certified Medical Interpreters Association
is to provide excellent Healthcare outcomes, patient safety and patient/provider communication, elevating the standards and quality of medical interpreting by providing a network of certified medical interpreters throughout California for all limited English proficiency patients.

Our Vision...

California Certified Medical Interpreters Association is an independent group of professional language service providers. As a group we strive to ensure the highest levels of ethics and integrity in our trade, supporting our members by sharing knowledge, skill building and expertise.

We are the essential link between doctors and patients along every step of the way and in all aspects of care. We pride ourselves on the positive impact we make, not only on the population of LEP's (those of limited english proficiency), but also on those who provide their medical treatment.

REQUEST CERTIFIED!

WHY USE CERTIFIED?

To protect you, your medical practice and your patients...

Please remember if you contract with a non-certified interpreter or provisionally certify an interpreter for an assignment, you will not be able to verify the interpreter's skill level, which may jeopardize the quality of your administrative hearing or medical proceeding.

SECTION SB-1160 Workers' compensation, Sec 12, Section 5811 of the Labor Code taking effect January 1, 2018 requires that all Medical Interpreters be certified by either:

  • The Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI)

  • The National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters (NBCMI)

  • The State of California (CalHr)
